Luc Lerch is a PhD candidate at the University of Basel. Before joining the Translational Psychiatry Lab, he studied Human Medicine at the University of Bern, earning his MD in 2025. He completed his Master’s thesis at the Computational Neuroscience Lab, where he investigated how REM-dream-inspired artificially generated images can be used to make object-recognition models more robust to visual noise, and therefore more similar to human perception. Prior to starting the PhD, he worked as a research associate at Inselspital Bern and at the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Research, focusing on AI applications in medical imaging.
